Bahamas ready for first Caribbean Games

Nine athletes represent the Bahamas at the first Caribbean Games, being held in Guadeloupe.

Dorian Roach, Chef de Mission for the Bahamas, leads the team of six competing in Athletics, two for Judo and one for cycling. Dr. Rickey Davis serves as team physician.

After a lively opening ceremony that featured Caribbean music and dancing, competitions begin June 30 and extend over five days. The Games feature seven sports, and the Bahamas will see its first competition on July 1 when it contests cycling and athletics.

An attempt was made in 2009 to launch the Caribbean Games in Trinidad. However, the efforts stalled. For this first edition in Guadeloupe, more than 800 athletes from 29 countries will take part.
